Michael Howitt

This 1973 song by Al Stewart is based on the life of Sir John Fisher, an Admiral in the British Royal Navy who served from 1854 to 1915. Known for his Naval reform efforts, he ended up resigning in 1915 after butting heads with an up and coming Winston Churchill over the loss of the Gallipoli Campaign in World War One. The song stands as a metaphor of growing old and becoming redundant. This is a cover of “Old Admirals”.
