Joe Caruso

Cover of “Blue Moon”, a oldie but goodie standard covered by many artists. Written by Rodgers and Hart in 1934. A big hit for Al Bowlly in 1934 and Mel Torme 1948. Musically important, it may be the first instance of the familiar “50s progression”, I–vi–IV–V, in a popular song. In 1961, “Blue Moon” became an international number one hit for the doo-wop group The Marcels and of course when you hear the words “Sha-Na-Na”, what song do you think of.
