โ€œShenandoahโ€ is probably 200 years old and there are many variations of the lyrics. The Shenandoah in the earliest versions is not the river of that name, but the Oneida Chief, and the main character is a fur trader that has fallen in love with the Chiefโ€™s daughter. In other versions the song was adapted as a sea shanty. I used to do this song on mandolin with my buddy Terry Sumsion and I canโ€™t hear or sing this one without thinking of him and his big baritone voice. It also reminds me of campground singalongs at Summerfolk in Owen Sound with about 27 part harmony.

  1. Nice performance John! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ My Grade 6 teacher, a Buddy Holly wannabe (he did have a good voice), taught us this song.
