Two Cover Songs – Name Songs (Oh) Donna – Ritchie Valens – 1958 Oh, Yoko – John Lennon – 1971 ———————————————— Whenever I just sit and strum aimlessly, fiddling on the guitar in the key of G my fingers often find the chords of C, Em, Am. Then, helplessly , I’m caught and start to play Oh Yoko. It’s a pretty little ditty and you can tell that John and Yoko were just falling in love when this song was written. “Oh, Yoko” was clearly influenced by all the ‘name’ songs that came out in the 50s , so while recording it I couldn’t stop thinking about “Oh Carol” by Chuck Berry and “Oh, Donna” by the late great Ritchie Valens who was along for Buddy Holly’s last plane flight. The Donnas in the montage are: Donna Reed Donna Megel played by Rhetta Donna Pinciotti played by Laura Prepon Donna Summer Donna Pescoe Donna Ludwig and Ritchie Valens.
