Bryan Charendoff

George Harrison wrote this song intending the lyrics as a call to abandon religious sectarianism through his blending of the Hebrew word hallelujah with chants of “Hare Krishna” and Vedic prayer. In 1971 it reached #1 and he was the first ex-Beatle to do so. Unfortunately it landed him in hot water due to it’s similarity to Ronnie Mack’s “He’s So Fine” made popular in 1963 by the girl group The Chiffons. In 1976 a judge found that Harrison subconsciously plagiarised the song, despite Harrison’s efforts to both settle out of court, and his claims the song was inspired by the Christian hymn “Oh Happy Day”. This is “My Sweet Lord”.

  1. Another great recording Bryan. The backing track is spot on.

That court case was all a terrible betrayal by Alan Klein.
He secretly bought the rights to “He’s So Fine” and was behind the court case against his own client.
Reaping payments from George for defending him in the court case and then again by secretly pocketing the judgement money.
Or at least, that’s what I’ve heard.
